The Role Our clients are a dynamic and very progressive young farming family who have taken immense pride in developing a 20,000-head lamb feedlot over the last five years. With clear business goals in mind, they are now inviting both junior and senior feedlot hands to join their growing team. These positions will support the management in maintaining excellent control of all operations related to fattening lambs and driving the business to continue their high-quality operation and move to the next level. In these roles, team members will initially work alongside the Feedlot manager, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of the operation. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to a thriving operation where innovative ideas are welcomed. You will be encouraged to take on greater responsibilities, which may include oversight of some of the daily operations and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities will include various tasks such as drafting, drenching, and vaccinating, as well a stock movements, animal health and other various tasks. Hands-on participation is key, and all team members will assist with essential tasks like feeding and fencing when needed. The ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously within the existing team is crucial, as are attributes like punctuality, tidiness, and professionalism and communication and key principles to their business. The feedlot boasts meticulously planned infrastructure, including a Tepari 5-way auto drafter and sheep lifters/immobiliser, along with undercover processing areas, a new shearing shed, feedlot office, staff bathroom, and kitchen. Technology plays a significant role in operations and Excel spreadsheets used for recording rations, vaccinations, growth rates, and medications. Extensive underground drainage and water reticulation systems have been installed to minimise water pooling during trough cleaning. The feedlot utilises a laneway system to facilitate easy movement of lambs between pens, with 4-wheel motorbikes as the primary mode of transport with the support of dogs.
